We’ve made no qualms about how we feel about artificial sweeteners. We’ve made it known to our audience that they’re not a healthy alternative to real sugar cane or natural sweeteners like Zsweet.
A new study reveals just how detrimental these synthetic sweeteners – think Splenda, Equal, and Sweet n Low – are to your overall health. Researches reviewed 37 studies, conducted for a decade or more, of over 400,000 people. When analyzing research, sample size and duration matter, and this study appears to have hit the mother load.
According to the researchers, “all of the studies selected found that artificial sweeteners had negative impacts on the metabolism, gut bacteria, and appetite of the subjects.”
In addition, long-term consumption was linked to increased risk of weight gain, obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, and other health issues.
Certainly a litany of known health issues should activate the public to ditch those harmful artificial sweeteners in favor of the natural stuff. Unfortunately, educational disconnect still exists and the report points out that 25 percent of children and 40 percent of adults in the U.S. consume artificial sweeteners on a regular basis.
Next time you observe someone touting the virtues of the aforementioned artificial sweeteners, perhaps you can kindly steer them toward natural, sugar substitutes like Zsweet.
