3. What is erythritol?

You’re probably wondering, “What is erythritol?” Erythritol is a naturally occurring sweetener found in many foods like fruits, vegetables, cheese, and yogurt. The erythritol in Zsweet® is derived from sugar, cultured using a natural process - fermentation. Erythritol is naturally a zero-calorie food. Unlike artificial sweeteners, which are man-made synthetic chemical compounds formulated in a lab, erythritol is a natural food that can be found in fruits and vegetables in your garden.

Is erythritol good for you? | Erythritol and digestion*

In the body, erythritol is absorbed into the bloodstream in the small intestine, and then for the most part excreted unchanged in the urine. Because erythritol is normally absorbed before it enters the large intestine, it does not normally cause laxative effects as are often experienced after over-consumption of other sugar alcohols (such as xylitol and maltitol) and most people will consume erythritol with no side effects. This is a unique characteristic, as other sugar alcohols are not absorbed directly by the body in this manner, and consequently are more prone to causing gastric distress. (*SOURCE: Wikipedia)

Since 1990, erythritol has been commercially produced and added to foods and beverages to provide sweetness, as well as enhance their taste and texture.

5. What is the difference between Zsweet® and other sweeteners?

Unlike most popular sweeteners, Zsweet® granulated & supersweet contain 100% all natural ingredients and are naturally processed. Sweeteners containing saccharin (Sweet 'n' Low®), aspartame (Equal®), or sucralose (Splenda®), are chemically processed artificial sweeteners. These artificial sweeteners have been strongly linked to undesirable side effects and leave a strong metallic or chemical aftertaste in the mouth. All of the ingredients in Zsweet® occur in nature in fruits and plants.

Zsweet® also stands out among other natural zero calorie sweeteners in taste & health benefits. Granulated Zsweet® has a taste and texture like sugar and can be used as a one-for-one substitute in baking. We've increased the sweetening power of erythritol; which is normally 70% as sweet as sugar; to 100% as sweet in granulated & twice as sweet in Zsweet® supersweet packets.

The Z in Zsweet® stands for...

Zero calories
Zero glycemic impact
Zero net-carbs
Zero artificial ingredients
Zero gluten
Zero GMO's

Zsweet® is also vegan and does not promote tooth decay or candida growth.

There are no artificial, or other natural, zero calorie sweeteners that encompass all of the qualities & benefits of Zsweet®. Zsweet® is truly a zero worries sweetener!

6. Why is Zsweet® a healthy sugar substitute for people with diabetes?

7. Should I expect intestinal discomfort from eating Zsweet®?

No! The main ingredient in Zsweet® is erythritol, the most mild sugar alcohol available. Studies show that erythritol does not have any gastro-intestinal related side effects, and it is so mild that the FDA does not require a warning label on the package as it does for other sugar alcohol products.

8. Why is Zsweet® good for my teeth?

Zsweet® has non-cariogenic properties, which means that it helps fight tooth decay! Research clearly established that the use of erythritol (Zsweet®'s main ingredient) sweetened foods provides additional help in the battle against tooth decay by significantly decreasing plaque accumulation.

Erythritol like other polyols is resistant to metabolism by oral bacteria which break down sugars and starches to produce acids which may lead to tooth enamel loss and cavities formation. They are, therefore, non-cariogenic. The usefulness of polyols, including erythritol, as alternatives to sugars and as part of a comprehensive program including proper dental hygiene has been recognized by the American Dental Association. The FDA has approved the use of a "does not promote tooth decay" health claim in labeling for sugar-free foods that contain erythritol or other polyols.

Erythritol is capable to (partly) inhibit oral bacteria in their ability to ferment certain sugars.
For example, sugar-free toothfriendly milk chocolate can be made with normal lactose - containing milk powder when erythritol is used as the sole bulk sweetener.

9. Is Zsweet® really zero calories?

YES! Zsweet® is a NO WORRIES, zero calorie sweetener. What does that mean? That means that there are NO BAD or HARMFUL SIDE EFFECTS, NO hidden calories & NO carbohydrate fillers.

FDA Food Labeling Regulations allow foods with just under 5 calories per serving to be labeled 0 calories. Therefore many popular "zero" calorie sweeteners actually contain up to 4 hidden calories per serving.

Zsweet® is TRULY a zero calorie sugar substitute, with only 0.2 calories per gram. Not only is Zsweet® zero calories, but it's zero net carbs, which means you don't have to do the carb-calorie conversion. Why is that you ask? Because these kinds of carbs are not turned into glucose in the blood and are unavailable to be utilized as energy.

10. How is Zsweet® zero calories if it shows carbs on the label?

Zsweet® granulated contains less than 4 zero-net-carbohydrates per serving & Zsweet® supersweet packets contain less than 1 zero-net-carbohydrates per serving. Zero net carbohydrates are also known as unavailable carbs, which means, essentially, that they don't count.  Zero-net-carbohydrates are not converted into glucose by the body & therefore do not require you to do a carb / calorie conversion. For this reason, Zsweet® is the perfect natural sweetener for individuals on low or no carbohydrate diets.

Because Zsweet® contains erythritol, considered a 'sugar alcohol', it is required by the FDA to display 1 carb per gram on its label.
